I've done well pretty much anywhere you can find access from the Park Mills Rd bridge upstream right through the Frederick area. There are many access points and you can probably wade 90% of it at typical summer flows (wouldn't attempt wading right now though). The biggest drawback to the Monocacy is that it gets very muddy after any significant rain and can take days to clear up again.

I've heard the Monocacy River is pretty much unfishable near where it dumps into the Potomac. What stretches are good?

And the water levels are way too high currently, but the Monocacy River near Frederick MD is pretty good and easy to get to. It's running around 900 cfs now but I like it below 400 for easy wade fishing. On Friday, June 15, 2018 at 4:24:12 PM UTC-4, tsta...@gmail.com wrote:Hi,I'm new to the Northern Virginia area and I've been looking for nearby places to do some smallmouth bass fishing. I've hit difficult run in Mclean, VA but I haven't had much luck. Does anyone know of some decent water I can fish? Thanks!
