Stripers = striped bass
Herring imitations work best. Also don't be afraid to throw two bigish streamers in tandem. Drift is key to managing fly line. Swinging flies leads to snags but if you can stay in touch with the fly line i.e. keeping it straight and with no drag, you'll be able to fish deep without the pitfalls and constant snags.
