Wish I had seen this sooner, could have saved you the trip.
-- Water levels in the mountain streams are low pretty much across the board. Best action recently has been for smallies on the upper Potomac. However, with that last low pressure system and cooler nights taking over, I'd expect to see a yellow stone fly hatch sometime soon. In which case, pray for rain to bring up the water levels.

Well, Dry River wasn't too much fun. Despite the recent rain, water levels were still pretty low, although the water was plenty cold. I pulled around 6-8 brookies and missed about as many. I headed over to the lower public section of Mossy Creek, which had decent but not great flows.

The Pocosin was very productive but many of the trout were so small that I had a hard time hooking up with a #16 Mr. Rapidan. I hit the Rapidan River later in the afternoon. The fishing was slower and there were a lot of people there. If you're thinking of trying the latter, I'd suggest fishing either the middle third or the upper third of the river. The water down in the Graves Mill/Staunton River area was too warm the last time I was there.
