{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Please help: good early fall trout spots in VA within 2.5 hours of NoVa

All,

All of my favorite trout spots (Robinson, Rose, Hughes, and Dry Rivers; Nicholson Hollow and Whiteoak Canyon; etc.) are barely fishable due to all the summer/lack of rain. (I'm not a big fan of the Rapidan.) Mossy Creek has okay flows, but not great.

I'm looking for ideas on streams/creeks where I could get my trout fix on in Virginia during the next month or so. Ideally, I'd like to find somewhere with bows and brownies, rather than just brookies. Do I really need to wait until VDGIF starts trout stocking in late-Sept./early-Oct.? To find sufficiently cold water, I assume I probably need to find a place that is spring-fed and/or receives cold water runoff from a dam, right?

I hear the Gunpowder [in MD] has been fishing well. Is there anything better within 2.5 hours of NoVa?
