Great report, glad you finally made it down there. Oh, and the cast you mention is simply called a "snap-cast" - a super useful trick indeed. Looking forward to the pictures.

Hey -- we camped at Douthat this weekend and had time to hit 3 sections of the Jackson on Friday and Sunday (today). I didn't know what to expect aside from all the reports and advice from the experienced folks on the forum here.--We ended up catching fish at every section we fished, and had pretty regular action (missed strikes, fish throwing the hook, landing a few) both days. And at no time did we run into other anglers on the river, other than some bank fishers at Gathright casting off the concrete wall near the outfall. Gathright was also our first experience with that didymo crap -- kind of a pain, but not a huge deal. Indian Draft was my favorite, and I imagine putting in a kayak to stop at certain sections would be VERY productive on the Jackson. I saw some nice spots upstream from Petticoat, but the private land on the banks made me too nervous to hop out of the river and bushwhack....We didn't catch anything over 12", and we only got rainbows -- and a few fallfish too ;). We both had a really great time though - it's a really nice river and very remote in places, kind of reminds me of the Current River in MO.We only fished soft hackles -- literally nothing else. I had a fish on the 2nd cast at Indian Draft in the riffles near the parking lot and wasn't inclined to change it up after that. I've said it before, but I absolutely love fishing soft hackles when possible....it's probably my favorite way to fish for trout.Douthat Lake was some tough fishin' in comparison ;). I had a full sink line and all kinds of stuff to throw -- but the bass (and pickerel according to the brown signs) etc. seemed to be holding deep and not biting too well. I did get a few small bluegill and smaller bass, but nothing else. That's a really, really nice state park there. That 3-pound dumbbell anchor worked like a charm, you guys were totally right about that.We also hit that gas station at Petticoat Junction there on the right side of the road - I loved the smell of that place when I walked in.....anyone know what I'm talking about? It reminds me of something, but I can't recall what it is.So we were tickled to death with the trip -- very fun and a wonderful experience to share with my wife. She's as game as the come! ;)Pictures forthcoming -- I can't find the camera and she's asleep already. Thanks for the information from everyone on that other thread -- it helped a lot.BTW -- for the spey people: Is there a name for a snap-T cast where you essentially use the initial move of the cast (the "reposition" move) to just flip the line upstream and just fish it from that point (mending, etc.)? I mean you'd normally use the repositioning part, then follow up with a roll cast (or overhead cast) back to the angle across/up/down that you're swining through.....but you skip the 2nd part. I was using a 3-weight (Beth stole my good 5-weight) with a 2-fly rig and found that it seemed to be easier sometimes to nix the 2nd part with the heavier flies and the fairly light fly line....but only on some of the more close-in runs. Boy, that's a useful cast -- it takes almost no effort and really whips your rig right back upstream if you do it right. Lazy is good --Gene
