{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fishing around Mason Neck Wildlife Refuge

I've fished the S.P. area up in the creek there (with a spinning rod) by the canoe place and caught a few bass, but nothing large..and actually, I don't recall any other species.  We just had a few little rooster tail spinners the last time, which is about 2-3 years ago now.  We float around there mostly for the birds, and also the wild rice if you hit it at the right time.  I wouldn't call it a fishy spot, but there are usually bass boats around there so maybe I just don't know the right places.

You can see some great birds around there though -- so the trip is worth it.

Haven't fished Mason Neck but have made a few very productive trips to Pohick Bay, right around the corner.  Shore, kayak, or otherwise?
