If they're breaking 55lb line, it's because it is getting nicked or subjected to abrasion. I never use anything bigger than 0X, and usually 3X - although I rarely fly fish heavy weeds anymore. Make sure you check your leader for nicks, wind knots, and abrasion often.

Alright. I will have to try that. What do you use as a leader? The bass ive hooked into on spinner have broken me off with 55lb braid line. Mostly due to the vegetation i believe. Thanks,Dan BarrettMSA Fall Protection CoOp1100 Cranberry Woods Drive,Cranberry TWP, PA3610 Dawson AvePittsburgh, PAOn Mon, Jul 15, 2013 at 4:25 PM, Steve F <spfbeaver@gmail.com> wrote:If you find weed mats drop a topwater fly into any holes in the mat, give it a pop or a twitch, and hold on. Otherwise, I find it generally best to try to run your fly over the top of the weeds. Select a fly and retrieve based on the depth of the weeds. Go topwater if there is too little room between weeds and surface. Also, mono weed guards can be a life (and fly) saver and are pretty easy to tie.--To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msgid/tidal-potomac-fly-rodders/4bcf08b5-3e4c-48ce-a0de-0708fc6e2b68%40googlegroups.com.
