RE: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shad Leaders

I tend to use a 1 foot section of stiff 20-25lb test as a butt section and then 2 feet of a good abrasion resistant 10-12lb test mono.  The river clarity is low, so no need for fluoro.

 

Make sure your sinking line has an intermediate running line so the whole line will sink, and not just the head.

Are Shad leader shy?

 

Dan posted earlier that you don't need more than 2-3' of leader for a sinking line.  But are we talking 0X-3X Flouro?  Or do we need to go down to finer trout tippets for Shad?
