Ed, I live on the Shenandoah and just got a skagit line for my 6wt switch rod. I'm thinking the same thing about using this for smallmouth. Went out yesterday and made some casts, my first with a Spey type of line. Awful casting, lots to learn but this is promising since I was able to get the line out with zero back casting room into currents previously unreachable with a fly rod. Got some sink tips and fluoro, going to be swinging some flies to see what happens!
