We run trips there every year, and were supposed to fish there in November but due to the death of Chavez we've been hesitant to book anything as of yet, so we're headed to Abaco instead.
Did you actually put a hook on the Sandpeople figure?

Subject: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Los Roques, Venezuela - March, 2013
If anyone gets a chance to get down to Los Roques, Venezuela I highly recommend it. My wife Cassie and I were a bit concerned about the political unrest in Caracass and the travel logistics but after getting some comfort from our outfitter we finally booked our trip and returned in early March from a week of fantastic fishing. We had an amazing time and everything was very smooth and totally easy as promised. We saw, hooked, and landed tons of bonefish. It was the first place that I have fished where you see fish all day long at every stage of the tide. Not only was the fishing fantastic, but the scenery, food and ambiance was incredible.
In addition to landing tons of bones I landed a grand slam. I hooked the permit at 9:23 AM, landed him by 10 AM and ran around and hooked up a bonefish and tarpon and was done with the slam by 11:40 AM. We went looking for snook in the afternoon for the super slam, but I stripped the fly away from the lone snook that we encountered. Here are some pics from the trip (including a bonefish that was disgraced by the Star Wars action figure that I won during the Beer Tie raffle. The triggerfish and the 'cuda were awesome as well. We only saw one triggerfish on the flats the entire trip and I somehow got this monster to eat a bonefish bitters.
Looking forward to the shad and the stripers in the very near future. If anyone has any questions about Los Roques feel free to reach out.
