{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Pike/Muski/walleye

have seen some big muskie on the deep & slow sections of the upper potomac, between great falls and point of rocks. (sure they go all the way up, but i rarely get the chance to fish between point of rocks and hancock) A couple have chased fish i had hooked but never had any luck hooking one on the potomac. That was all during the summer months though and really don't know much about their movement this time of year. probably need a boat, which is a whole different bag of tricks in January. 

I know people have been catching some nice walleye up around the dams on the susquehanna and fletcher's supposedly has a couple here on the potomac, but never had much luck this far south. You can also find walleye in several area lakes, tho never seen anyone do anything with a fly rod. as john mentioned, deep fishing a live minnow is usually the best technique for them.  good luck. 

in terms of pike... don't know of any northern pike in the immediate dc area. heard of them in some of the high mountain lakes but believe most are stocked w/ chain pickerel. only time i've caught any kind of pickerel down here is accidentally while trout fishing downstream of stocked reservoirs, fun little surprise on a 3-4 wt.

I did not have a fly rod, but the gent I fished with catches them there from late Spring to late Fall. We saw one, about 4 ft long, approach  my friend's lure as he did the figure 8 on his retreive. Only one we saw that day. I think a big Half and Half would have gotten that fish to eat.

I have heard that we can catch these kind fishes in North Potomac River - it is long river. The fishes could not be near Dickson area because they have to stay in cold water. Anyone who knows the spec area/access point, flies - clousers or deer hair popper? Any tips or links?
