{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Davies, West Virginia

Davis? Im up there quite a bit. If youre staying around Davis, grab some woolie buggers and head out onto the Blackwater down from the 32 bridge. Find the fire station on the shore and fish in that area. Youll probably find some trout there. The other option is in the park itself, between the bridge and the first set of falls. Trout there as well. There are a lot of other places but youll need to take the unmaintained loop road and unless you have a truck capable of it, I would say to avoid those areas.

One other thing to think about, its f'ing cold out there right now. Water is super cold so that might cut the amount of time you are willing to spend out there. It did for me. Its snowing pretty regularly up there.

If youre looking for more information, hit up WV department of fisheries website for a stocking schedule:

Also, the WVAnglers site is a good one for information.

blackwater is pretty good where they stock it, in and around the town of davis and the state park... have tried fishing the upper section at various places in the valley outside of the stocked sections and not had much luck... (unless you find chubs to be lucky)

also, forget off hand which branch and fork of the potomac flows by Seneca Rocks but right behind the national forest visitors center there's some pretty good freestone fishing.  The trail to the top is also a great group hike activity and beautiful 30 min drive from canaan.  bring your camera!

there are also several tiny brookie streams, and some wild brown and rainbows mixed in from stockings that took place long ago, throughout the area... would recommend scouting a topo map and then checking the interwebs for more info on specific streams since there are several in the area that are dead from mine runoff and insufficient acid rain buffers.

a few of the resorts/communities have tiny holding ponds that are good for sunfish, 10-16" largemouth and occasionally stocked with trout.

a couple other helpful bits...
not sure when you're going but may/june snow isn't unheard of up there.
lot's of bears.
buy food and beer before going. only grocery store is way over priced.

Anyone ever fishing out around Davies, West Virginia?  My girlfriend's friend is renting a cabin for her birthday, and I'm hoping to bring the rod and get into the water a bit.  Davis is right where Beaver Creek (other one) meets the Blackwater River.  WV DNR stocks the blackwater, and there's supposed to be good bass, but wanted to see if anyone has any experience there.
