{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Yosemite Fishing in April?

Scott,

My wife and I were in Yosemite August 2012. We used Tim Hutchins, see his link above. He was outstanding. I am quite the novice flyfisherman and my wife is less experienced than I but we both had a great time. We fished a feeder stream of the Merced River, scrambling up a craggy valley in the mountain, jumping boulders and stopping at every pool to cast and catch small natural rainbows. After we departed the parking lot, we did not see another human being for 4 hours. We hired him for a half day but I wish it were more. Not only was he knowledgeable about flyfishing but about the park and the streams and general environment as well. He has all gear available if it's too inconvenient to pack your gear out with you. I highly recommend him. I won't bet my life on this but I am pretty sure I remember him saying he was Oprah's guide too, lot's of interesting stories to go along with the fishing. If you contact him, don't get impatient if his reply takes a few days, cell phones don't work well out there and he lives in a pretty remote area of the park so internet is spotty too.

I'll be heading to a wedding in Yosemite in early April and planning to spend a few extra days in the park. What can I hope to find in terms of fishing? Is April too early?

Can anyone recommend areas or guides? Any information would be really helpful. Thanks!
