I believe the local Eastern European community favors them. The few guys I've seen doing it are all speaking something Slavic-sounding.

Last time I was through there, in the fall, the parking spaces on Harpers Ferry Rd on the Maryland side upstream of the bridge had been closed off.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} fletchers access

For the love of god do this, its like an extra minute to go up Reservoir and turn around at the culdesac. The three point turn is beyond obnoxious for every other car on the road whether their waiting at the light or trying to get into Fletchers themselves and also not very safe.

is there some secret technique to getting into fletchers coming eastbound on canal road? its a 2-3 point turn in a truck, and it being the city folks are not so patient. almost got into an accident this morning from someone trying to squeeze around me on the right when i tried to swing the turn wide.

caught 20+ today, so the fishing was good at least.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: fletchers access

The back in maneuver is not a good idea unless it is completely dead.  You won't be able to do it in time to not affect the cars waiting at the bottom who will invariably go anyway and get stuck at the top making it impossible for cars to turn in.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: fletchers access

I don't know how someone hasn't died going the wrong way on canal road.  Way too many people don't realize it is a one way at certain times.  I was leaving today at 630 and was pulling the uturn and they car in front of me went out the wrong way, i could see cars in both lanes coming in.  Only a matter of time.

Or you can turn left on Arizona and go up to MacArthur Blvd. then turn right on MacArthur.  Go down to Reservoir Rd and turn right. That goes down to a traffic light, and you can get across to Fletchers there.

During afternoon/evening rush hour you have to go this way because both lanes carry outbound traffic.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Chain Bridge Shad Fishing

On the Virginia side, there is a small lot up under the parkway overpass off Glebe Rd.
Then do your Frogger thing on that narrow roadway to get to the shore.

Does anyone know if there is parking & water access near the chain bridge?

I typically park at Fletchers, than follow the trails until the big boulders, then start rock hopping as I fish from the bank.

Not sure if I can approach that area conveniently from the upstream direction and walk down.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Harper's Ferry Shelf Access

About  5-6 years ago, there were several actual parking spots off route 340 as it crossed the Potomac from Maryland from in to West Virginia. Things could have changed since then. So so those parking areas may no longer exist

Hello,

I was planning to take my dog and Girlfriend to Harper's Ferry (On Saturday) to explore the historic sites and also hike up to Maryland heights.

I also wanted to fish from that rock shelf you can see from google earth on the VA side where the Shenandoah empties into the Potomac, but I saw that there are no parking signs all over 340. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Chain Bridge Shad Fishing

There is a parking lot just passed chain bridge on Clara Barton parkway. If you're heading from DC into Maryland. It'll be on your left side

Had to rescue a drowning cormorant today caught in very heavy mono and a hook.

Absolutely stunning animal up close.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Fwd: Rendezvous cancelled; still casting this Saturday

---------- Forwarded message ---------

Subject: Rendezvous cancelled; still casting this Saturday
View this email in your browser

Fellow Antietam Fly Anglers,

Due to double booking of the River Bottom Park that we normally use for the Rendezvous, we regret to say that the Rendezvous is cancelled for this Saturday.  The Williamsport Youth Soccer League will be using the field. We did reach an agreement with the soccer league that in April 2022 they won't schedule any gamesome the field that we normally use.

If you still want to join us for casting this Saturday, we will be meeting at Williamsport High School in a field next to the sign for the school.  It is not a football or baseball field, just a large grassy area that we should be able to use.  We will meet there this Saturday at 9 a.m. and plan to still talk and geek out on fly casting. Dave Cleaves, Master Casting Instructor, still plans to be there, along with at least a few other casting instructors.

To get to the HS field, enter this address into your smart phone: 334 E. Sunset Ave., Williamsport, MD 21795, and that should get you close to the field.

If you have any questions, just call or text me at 301-491-5966.
