If you are not sure about tying files as a hobby, then the kit is a reasonable introduction to fly tying. As a serious fly tier you'll most likely replace/upgrade the vice, some of the tools and may not use some of the materials. If you know flying will be a serious hobby, then I echo Dan G's recommendation.
