To add further persuasion -- This thing will not last so much in years, as it will in decades. Aluminum canoes get a bad rap from some folks (due to supposed noise more than anything), and while that is certainly true, so are these items:
-- 1. They're far more durable than any other material;
2. The noise isn't really a big deal -- I used one for a full week on a motor-less, unassuming MN lake last spring and felt quite sneaky;
3. You can start a fire in the middle of the boat for warmth;
4. There is something very, very American about aluminum canoes;
5. You can completely abuse and neglect them; and
6. Most are made to a similar, standard geometry that is very easy to stand and fly cast out of from the front or back.
Seriously, I can't imagine how many fish have probably been caught in this country out of aluminum canoes --
I would trade my heavy, crappy fiberglass canoe for a 16-17' aluminum boat any day, any time and I truly regret not buying an aluminum boat instead of that one.
