Jim,
Virginia
- Immediately on the VA side there’s room for 2-3 cars if they park correctly. They never do. It’s tight getting in and out. (IMAGE)
- There are spaces on 41st Street N. (IMAGE)
District of Colombia
- There are a bunch of spots on the Clara Barton at Lock 5 (IMAGE). There are about 30 parking spaces here. Start to walk over to Virginia and the ramp on your right leads down to the towpath. You’ll have to access it heading south on the Clara Barton in the mornings and early afternoons only. Both lanes go northbound after 3pm I believe, and you can’t make a left from Chain Bridge onto the Clara Barton coming from VA. WARNING – do NOT leave anything of value visible in your vehicle here. Break-ins have been known to happen.
The walk up from Fletcher’s is pretty far. Either bring a bicycle or use the above options.

There is parking for a few cars on the virginia side as soon as you cross the bridge. It is probably better to park on the dc side though. There is a walk bridge that crosses the canal and hits the towpath. You just follow the trails back to the potomac.

Good evening,Wanting to fish under and around Chain Bridge on the DC side. Looking for access. I understand I can park at Fletcher's and walk the river path up to Chain Bridge. Is there a way to get that same access by parking on the Virginia side and walking across the bridge? Is there a way to get across the C&O on the DC side of the bridge? Thanks,Jim
