{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Day trip question

I would hold off on Mossy until you acquire more experience. And I'm not sure what "day fishing pass" you're referring to.

The short answer is, unless we get rain in the next two weeks, about your only good trout options (other than stillwater, which isn't a good option) will be spring creeks and the south and savage. beaver creek VA is suitable for beginners, but you have to arrive to get a pass NLT 5:45am, sometimes earlier. And if you don't get a pass, your only nearby options are mossy and south. (dry river will be too low).

Rose River farm ($95/day and probably booked up) is a great option for beginners. But I'd still wait until rain or a freeze comes through.

My best advice is spend the $85 and fish susie q farms, and/or hire a guide and fish some private water.

PM me if you'd like to chat.

New guy here who lives in the district.

I'm just getting back into fly fishing after a hiatus involving bicycles. Anyways I have a question for you guys and gals. I'm planning a midweek trip out to Front Royal with a friend in 2 weeks. Fishing will happen on the second day.

I know passage creek is stocked earlier in the year and it seems tough to fish without waders. Hopefully I'll have a pair by then.

Would making the drive down to Mt. Solon and Mossy Creek be worth my while? I don't have much if any experience fly fishing for trout. Mostly bass and pond fishing in my past. I'm aware of the private land pass with VDGIF and securing a day fishing pass with them as well.

Can anyone recommend a stream that would be out that way that is more beginner friendly?

Thanks!
