Check out Nahant on the north shore. Its a short drive from Boston, the cliffs on the eastern most point, lodge park and east point are great. They're pretty dangerous climbing so go prepared with good gear, be very careful of slippery rocks and make sure you bring water and a cell phone. You won't really be able to park near the beach so you'll have to park farther away and walk, i usually park in the church parking lot, discretion is the better part of valour with that, and they will ticket/tow your car if you park elsewhere.
I'd go with studded wading boots for traction on the slick rocks and seaweed. The tide moves quickly there so don't get caught out on a rock spur. Do use your intermediate or sinking line. In some pools you can sight fish. Mostly though I'm casting into the white water where the surf hits the rocks and stripping quickly through. I've had a lot of luck using a purple and black half and half, it silhouettes nicely against the white bubbles. But try different bait fish patterns and see what works.
We've talked to lobstermen in their boats nearby and asked for depth readings, the water goes down 200ft so it's a steep drop off. Be careful, and tight lines!

Hi Guys,Its been a while since I've been on here but I thought I could use your help! I recently moved up to Boston and have been doing great on trout, but I have yet to get a trier on fly. The reports note fish are in the area from north to south, but I am restricted to shore fishing with my 8-wt - but I do have floating, intermediate, and full sink lines.Does anyone have any recommendations for schoolies or other spots to cast a fly in the general boston, boston harbor area? This would be greatly appreciated and I'll be sure to share any photos should I be successful! Thanks again
