Decided to take my Pop fly fishing for the first time (he's had some basic lessons). He's got some back issues and so we chose private water - Beaver Creek near Nemacolin Resort in the Laurel Highlands. Kind of like fishing a Disneyland park with lots of big stocked trout (if you like wild or native trout try the Ohiopyle state park or Yoch nearby). Anyway, Mike Steiner (Orvis up at Nemacolin) did say we'd be there in time for the cicada hatch.
-- Nothing like watching big, lazy trout key in on big bugs. Though there was no significant hatch on this highly manufactured piece of water, the trout rose readily to a splashy cicada pattern and chase a dark streamer. Given this is supposed to be a big brood year I highly recommend you put these in your box and keep an eye out on your next trip. Pop did quite well, but we've got to work on his trout set. For a guy used to fishing bass all his life he sure forgot how to set a hook! I also gave my own new 7' 3wt butterstick a shakedown - it can take big fish!
