This may or may not be true regarding NSH, but one of the TDA (Texas Ag) guys who spoke about feral swine at the vertebrate pest conference 2 weeks ago said that if you want to NOT eradicate feral swine from a region, you start creating hunting tournaments and "bounties" for them :). The idea is that these opportunities essentially create a situation where there is now a reason (at least for some) to keep them around. Well, and also the "wanton waste of game" laws are problematic.
-- Clearly, management of these species is somewhat different -- I just thought it was interesting to think about.
I was hoping to do the NSH tournament this year! I've been out of town for the last 2, but should be here this year.
