The question came up at Beer Tie: which came first? Super-quotable Bruce Campbell horror romp, Army of Darkness? Or Carl Hiaasen's comic crime caper, Skin Tight?--

Skin Tight: 1989
Army of Darkness: 1992
But... the scene where Ash (Bruce Campbell) loses his hand and replaces it with a chainsaw is actually in Evil Dead 2 -- released 1987. So it's possible Hiaasen copped the idea for Chemo's weed whacker from Evil Dead II. However, Hiaasen says the inspiration was from watching bouncers try to control a mosh pit.
