Anyone ever fish the ponds at Claude Moore Park? I will be staying in that area in a couple weeks and was wondering if it's worth bringing the fly rod along.
Many thanks.

Spent the day there two summers ago and the girlfriend and I both come out
covered in chiggers. We were both miserable and she ended up having to go
to the doctor for treatment. I didn't catch anything but it was in the
middle of summer and I'm sure the pond water was near 90*.

I spent the day there a few summers ago. My girlfriend and I both came out
covered with chiggers. I didn't catch anything, but it was mid summer and
I'm sure the pond water was hot and stagnant. I've had good results fishing
the river nearby in Sterling and Landsdown.

I just moved out to the Loudoun area and was wondering the same thing about
Claude Moore Park. Bob, is that the Goose Creek golf course area or the
Broad Run river you are referring to?

John I've fished both with success. Goose Creek at Kephart Bridge Landing
in Landsdown off of Riverpoint Dr. I've caught smallmouth from the landing
down stream. To access Broad Run and the Potomac (channel behind the
island) I use Bles Park off of Riverside Pkwy and usually fish the area
where they converge.

Mark, I took your advise and hired a guided float fishing trip on the Kenai
River with Travis and a wading fishing trip with Fly Bob on the Russian
River. They both send they're regards (see photo). On both trips we
caught plenty of Sockeye Salmon. After catching our limit of Sockeyes on
the Russian within the 1st hr Fly Bob wanted to take me downstream to fly
fish for Rainbows but that trek was quickly interrupted by a very large
female Brown Bear with a cub. We stayed upstream the rest of the day
catching sockeys all day long.

The key is "without rain." That doesn't seem to happen this summer!
Fishing hasn't been the best for smallmouth this year because of the
constant rain.

Signed! Really hope they reconsider.
