Gene, use fluoro and it will not resist sinking
Matt and Vic, did not watch, but have done it lots. Another method is 3 strand twisted and makes a nicer product in terms of laying out, but then you have to connect (knot) sections made with say 3 strands of 12 lb for butt, 3 strands of 8 lb for middle, 3 strands of 4 lb for lower... Using 6 or 8 or 4 lb and doing the twist, then twisting the twisted for the butt (still need a knot where 4 strands and 2 strands meet) works fine, and big advantage is that you can do that stream side in 5 minutes if you find yourself with no leader, but you have tippet.
Also, with 3 strand method, you can dial in taper better based on diameter of the 3 strand sections. With the one continuous, you are locked into 4 strands, 2 strands, 1 strand, all same diameter or test.
Pros cons to each. And of course true furled on a jig (not hard at all to set up a jig) means knotless.
Could be a corner activity at a beer tie...
Stay warm,
Ron
