It happened when I was 8 years old. I saw someone fly fishing for the first time. It was while I was on a vacation with my family and I was walking past a stream. The guy probably didn't even know anyone was watching him fish.
After seeing this for the first time I knew that I wanted to learn to fly fish. I had always loved fishing but this wasn't just fishing, fly fishing looked like art.
Four years later my Grandfather gave me my first fly rod. He knew how to fly fish and he taught me how to cast. I was hooked.
I have always made it a point to try to introduce people into the sport. I feel that it is a great way of passing on what was passed on to me. It is amazing how many people think that fly fishing is so hard but it really isn't. Once they make the connection most of the people I have shown are hooked as well.
How many times do you think that someone has seen us out there and wondered about the sport?
