Many moons ago (ie over 10) my dad and I were fishing a local golf course pond. (Close by. And like to go after dinner). We typically caught bluegill and smallies. Dad was fishing a chartreuse popper and caught a grass eating carp on a 5 or 6 wt. after fighting it for an hour he finally gave up and cut the line in fear of snapping the rod.
If you finally catch it be prepared for a battle!
Sorry no advice but that memory will always stick with me.
Good luck
