I was out on the GP last sunday. After having several fish hit on nymphs (though none landed), I caught three brownies with dry flies - one on a BWO and two on an elk hair caddis. They were all rather small, but fun as hell. That river can be frustrating and the fish picky at times, but swap things out until you find something that works. Good luck if you get back out there tomorrow.

Dongbo,Good meeting you out there last Saturday. I'll probably be out there tomorrow morning once again. Plan on walking further upstream and making a day of it. I nymphed the fast water and it proved to be productive. Thanks Charlie!

A friend and I would take the Metro North from the Bronx up towards Brewster New York to fish the East Branch, a tailwater, of the Croton Watershed.I made countless trips there all in pursuit of trout and I just couldn't really get it. Nymphing, keeping a dry on top, dead drifting, mending, etc... This was coming from someone who exclusively surf fished.Last winter I did hook into one large rainbow who will remain etched in memory but I was broken off between some branches.Anyway, last month I returned to Brewster on one of those hot days and fished with confidence. I nymphed some fast water, made the necessary mends, and was able to finally land my first trout, a Rainbow. That also sparked an interest in tying trout flies.Since that magical experience I've been going on trips for trout. I landed my first Brown in Beaver Creek not long ago after spending alot of time picking through 2 rats nests and had a great day on the Gunpowder River last Saturday. I got into 5 beautiful browns, one who took a leap out from some boulders. All the frustrations that may have come along while fishing for trout were and are all worth it.
