NEDAK's posting on places to fish on his trip to Wilkes-Barre PA and the replies by me and others in the thread prompted me to read up on how the recent years' degredation of the Susquehanna as a smallmouth fishery is going. The results are really depressing. I knew it was bad but it seems to have gotten worse, and not only in terms of the fish being caught with mucousy lesions and cancers and fish with both male and female sex organs -- but also in terms of the inconclusive and as-yet-ineffective political / public / scientific / regulatory approaches to confronting the problems. So I'm almost sorry I suggested fishing the Susq earlier. The Susq used to be known for large numbers of large bass... it's Bob Clouser's home waters for crying out loud. I went to college in Bloomsburg and fished there a lot, and some as a little kid too, but reading stuff like what's in the link below, I'm not sure I'd want to get wet in it, much less catch anything from it.
