{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Casselman River MD Memorial Day Weekend

A buddy and I spent Sunday and Monday on the Casselman River in Garret County, MD. We fished the delayed harvest, artificial fly only section near Grantsville. Although the trout would occasionally rise, we had better luck with nymphs. The fish tended to congregate in the pools and deeper sections of the river, but there was some decent action in the riffles in the afternoons, as well. We mostly caught juvenile and mid-sized rainbows, but we also found a few small brook trout and one brown.

We were worried that the river would be cramped, but the handful of other fly anglers we ran into were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the state park campgrounds in Garret County were booked up for the Holiday weekend, so we ended up getting a room at the Casselman Inn Motor Lodge. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and dirt cheap ($60 per night). It definitely makes for a great and cheap fishing weekend.

I think a lot of my "good fishing mojo" came from my new TPFR cap (Thanks, Dan!).
