This may be an ignorant question, and if so I apologize.  When you start going to wide gap hooks, why not just go up a hook size.  For example is a size 6 wide gap 3x streamer hook the same as a size 8 2x streamer hook?

I do tie quite a few foam damsels. They are easy and good looking.  Just make sure to use a wide gapped hook for good hook sets.

Just do a quick google search for videos of the multitude of good looking patterns.
