{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Snake River float trip

Late report but got in a trip to Idaho Falls in July.  Went out of Heise, ID on a 1/2 day float.

Using guide's gear, 9'6" 6wt w. floating line. Set up was long taper leader, big split shot followed by flies.  Flies were, what I call a flounder hook, wrapped in chenille, cross wrapped with wire, followed by a Rob  Snowhite special, wiggly worm.  We were imitating earthworms.

For the wet flys, I put about 12 fish to hand.

The idea was to cast to deeper pools off the gravel bars.  Chucking all that weight was kinda tricky because the loops were UGLY.  I got the hang of it and casting was not an issue.  The average fish was a 19-20" beautiful brown.  These strong guys would hold at the bottom of the river and if they took the fly, they were strong in the river.  We chased a few down stream and settled on the gravel bar.   Guide looks downstream and tells me to chill out and watch 20 feet below us.  Smaller browns were taking dry flys off the surface.  We cast to them for about 20 mins,   It was so much fun but we had trouble keeping them on because of the bad hook setting angle.  Each hook set was poor and they would pop off after a leap or 2.

The trip continue to the same result landing on a gravel bar when we came upon a bend in the river.  We could see trout taking dries again.  Fortunately the wind cooperated and the casting was pretty good, I stuck this beautiful cuttie on the dry.  Watched him from about 8 feet come up and take the dry.  A great fight on 4x tippet.

An awesome 1/2 day trip with 15+ brought to hand.

All fish were safely released back to the Snake.

Later that night I did a few minutes of self guided fishing and scored this feisty little brownie on a dry.

Little experience on dry fly fishing before and now I see the allure.

Didn't get a pic of the rainbow but I got the Snake slam.

Guide name provided via PM if interested.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for looking.
