{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fished 4MR for the first time today...

Good deal - last time I was there, there were about 25 off-duty cops looking for a body.  Fishing was surprisingly good though!

Walked in to the water just across from the out flow at about 1145 and fished until 1400. Caught too many bass to keep track of. Largest about 10" most were 5"-7". 

My phone's tide app indicated that high tide in Alexandria had been at 0845 with low tide expected at 1500. Not sure the timing offset for the 4MR water treatment plant but over the two + hours I fished there was a significant drop in water level. Water was running sparkling clear and cool the entire time.

Fished my 5wt rig first using a #6 chartreuse and white clouser then later switching to a #10 green popper. Both were equally effective (perhaps because the water level was lower when I switched to the popper).

I was surprised that I caught only three panfish (all on the popper). The bass (all largemouth) were hammering the flies. 

I also saw one of the goldfish I've seen mention of here on the boards. It was all over bright orange and looked to be about 6" or so. Tossed the clouser to it a few times with no luck.

Anyway, a great time was had. I will definitely be back.

BTW - regarding the parking lot at the park, there was a construction crew on site paving 4MR Trail with asphalt for a few hundred yards along the water. The parking lot was closed. I parked in the lot associated with the establishment adjacent to the 4MR Park lot.
