First, I want to thank all of you who chimed in with comments and
well-wishes when I announced my plans to relocate.

It was so heart-warming and encouraging while I was away to read the notes
as they came in and it allowed me to reflect on all we have shared over the
last seven years. It also left me very confident in the strength and
future of the group, and I am well pleased with the community we have
become.

I am looking forward to seeing a ton of you tomorrow for my last BEER TIE
at the helm. I'd like to leave the club well funded, so we're going to
have a pretty substantial raffle to load up the coffers! I'm throwing in a
TFO 7'9" 5-weight Finesse rod (4-piece) which is the perfect size for a lot
of our smaller streams here. Haven't used it since I came to work for
Orvis, but it is still a gem and really needs to be back out on the water
again. Rod is complete with a sock and tube, ready to strap on a pack and
hit the trail! Others have offered some great raffle items, so I'll let
them chime in with what they're throwing in the pot!

To maximize the funding potential for TPFR, we're going to up the ante a
bit with the ticket prices. $5 for one ticket and $20 for five. Simply
put, BRING SOME $20s! Aside from the big ticket items, we still have a ton
of great books that have been donated by several members, so it's a great
opportunity to add to the library. And, we have hundreds of FREEBIE back
issues of fly fishing magazines up for grabs, so please plan on grabbing a
stack or two!

To add to the party, one of my colleagues from the Arlington shop, Adam
Sorokes will be playing his guitar for a few sets so we'll have some live
music. Also, as suggested, we'll be having an "IRON VISE" contest with the
random contents of the BEER TIE cart. And, I'll be making an official
leadership announcement and formally passing the torch to the next in line,
so be there if you want to hear it first!

As promised, Melody and the kiddos will be joining us, so bring your
families if you can! We're super psyched to see you all tomorrow, and I am
super thankful to all who can make it!

I will be donating a 2 peice 7 1/2 foot 3 wt sage vantage with rod tube and an old school Orvis Battenkill 3/4 made in England model reel with 3wt line. This rod has only been used once and will make a perfect brookie set up for the Shenandoah National Park.

I can offer a two handed spey lesson - skagit or scandi, or a single handed lesson on improving the double haul and distance.

I didn't even know this pic existed until Dan Davala told me that it was posted on the Orvis blog.

A very good friend of mine PJ Dailey of Savage River Angler is a full time guide in Western MD. I spoke with him the other day about the effects of the spill. He tells me that so far he has seen no ill effects on the NB from the Spill. Good news!

Since the original post, Molly has upped her game and eaten every piece of
nonsynthetic material that is still attatched to some sort of skin,
including zonker and crosscut rabbit. she has figured how to get into my
lockable containers. I had to make an orvis run. she seems to be digesting
the fur and feathers pretty well, with the exception of the first two
bucktails, which she barfed out. her barf plug looked like a hybrid with
bob popovics's bucktail deciever that was the size of a whole bucktail and
the fly that I won the grab bag with that I used a whole peacock feather
and a whole brown ostritch herl for. (if you can't remember that, ask
trent.). she is now under human supervision at all times and we have taken
to not letting her inside the house when we go places.

Just make sure you keep your flies tucked away. I'ld hate to have her eat
your box of Clousers.
This might be a sign to give up tying.

Lucas,

It's time you move out and get your own place.

You're probobly right Rob. Carl, the dog only eats materials that are still
attatched to skin, such as bucktail that hasn't been cut off of the fur.
It's the tarpon bunnies and other zonker strip flies that she would eat,
not clousers. an interesting side note is that I have never caught a fish
on any variation of a clouser except my version that I call the foureyes.
The foureyes is tied with hackle feathers on the bottom in place of
bucktail and two sets of eyes for added weight.

Hello All,

Wondering people's opinion (or known facts) on fish movement when the wind
is really blowing. I'm from a little harbor town on Lake Ontario
originally, and the falls are exceptionally windy. Now, some different
elements are more in play up there, as the lake will get really rough and
the water temperature will occasionally "flip", but the basics are about
the same. Do fish around the harbor/river/bay go out to deeper water or
seek shelter when the weather gets bad? Obviously conditions are not the
same a few feet down in the water column, but there are definite surge,
visibility, and noise factors that I feel could displace fish.

What do you all think? Anyone have experience on this?

I avoid those stinging bastards and their hymenoptera relations like the
plague.
