{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Fishing Report: Lower Savage River

I was out there this past weekend as well given that my wife was out of town!  I fished the NB at Barnum Saturday afternoon, camped there, and fished the Savage Sunday.  Caught one over on the NB but had a great day Sunday on the Savaging catching 12.  Great weather.  It would have been a great day even if the fishing would not have been so good.  I caught browns, brookies, and rainbows.

Wife was out town for work this weekend and decided to head to western Maryland to explore the Lower Savage River for the first time. Arrived Sat afternoon, fished the evening, camped overnight near the river and fished Sunday morning. Yowza!, fishing was great (beginners luck). Landed a couple sizable rainbows, a number of browns  and  even a brook trout. The rainbows and the bug-eyed meat-head of brown in the picture (taken at dusk, sorry about the quality) were all caught on hare's ear nymphs.   The brook trout and some of the smaller browns were taken on the surface with stimulators. The fish seemed to be looking up in the early evening for sulphurs.  I'm due to get skunked the next time I fish that river -- which may be next weekend...
