GS: I use a lumbar pack (is that like a thing-a-ma-fanny pack?) and it won't stop you from wading deep! 

There's a trick -- when you get done fishing, unzip the fanny pack and invert it until all the water dumps out, then you set up a shot fan at home to dry your fishing licenses and half a granola bar.  It has worked great for me for nearly every trip I've taken in the last 6 months.
