Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you'll be passing near some Blue Ribbon trout waters - the Yellow Breeches, Big Spring Creek and the Letort. I've never fished them, but I believe they're near Carlisle which wouldn't be too far out of your way.
Not sure how long you're up there, but a side trip to Fishing Creek in Benton, PA could be worth your while as well.

It depends how far you're willing to "diverge a little" and how much time you'd have to stop and fish, but you definitely have good options. As you may be aware, the Catoctin mountains in MD along US 15 have nice trout streams (I haven't checked them so can't help you there). Up in PA, along your route you cross the Susquenanna and it can fish well not far from Harrisburg and probably even right there. Then there's its entire length all the way to the Sunbury confluence and east past Bloomsburg all the way to your destination in Wilkes-Barre. Now, it's a big river, and how well would depend a lot on the water level, clarity, location, and temperature but season-wise you're in good shape right now there. I'm sure there are plenty of websites with specifics on access and flows etc. Smallies and panfish would probably be your main targets there but the Susq has cats and carp and Lord knows what else.
However, here's where I'd go if you're after a quick trout fix in that part of the state: your main route may take you not far from Quittapahilla Creek in Lebanon County east of Harrisburg, which is a pretty limestone trout stream I have had some luck on right where it runs through Annville. It's a fairly urban fishery there, so despite that I'm sure it gets a lot of pressure, a TPFR guy will feel right at home. :-) Plus there are good places to eat and drink nearby, before getting back on the road (sober, of course!) to Wilkes-Barre.Good luck. And if it works out it'd be great to read about it on this forum.--

Any advice on locations for stopping along the way? Prefer trout but bass ok too.
Time not an issue so I can divert a little as required.
Thanks.
