Quick update… I ended up not bringing a rod (it was our wedding anniversary trip, so wanted to earn some karma points). We did walk the ponds on the property yesterday. It was hot and the middle of the day, but I saw a few good sized bluegills and one very tiny largemouth—probably young of the year. We did, however, find excellent soft serve at the Carousel in Warrenton. If we go back, I'll definitely bring a rod.

Dave,  I fish a number of farm ponds in my area.  During the day the fish may remain deeper in the cooler water.  So streamers may be more effective.  A dusk, then you may get some top water action as there are more insects around, gurgles, grasshoppers, and such may be the ticket.  Hopper droppers may work well any time.

There are fish in the ponds. They mow right up to the edge so not much hiding spots for fish. Always worth bringing a rod.
