Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} New to area

Trev how's it going!

Like you I'm new to the area but not to worry..
Fish are around.

Within dc there is the tidal basin which holds bass, stripers, snakehead and catfish. There are other species in there too but I believe those are the most targeteted.

The C and O canal is another great spot to which offers site fishibg for carp but also holds bass.

Burke lake is another sweet option , located in Burke Virginia. They have boats rentable for 45 with a trolling motor and the lake holds a strong bass, musky, walleye, and bluegill (I think) population.

Shanendoah is also a good bet for brookies, albeit about an hour forty five from dc.

Check out this article I wrote for TU about fishing around here

Hey guys,

I am new to the DC area as far as fishing goes, I just started working at Orvis (with Art), and was an avid fisherman back in Iowa with a spinner and baitcaster, but have made the switch to fly fishing. I love fishing for smallmouth, northern pike, and walleye. My associates told me to post on here to see what is the best area within an hour of Arlington to fish? Appreciate any help!
