The Great Wildebeest Migration

Big 5 and Birds

The African Safari has always been the holy grail of wildlifers. Home to the "Big 5" game and lesser mammals if often eclipses the rich bird life of the country. Tours to Kenya are all focussed on the mammals leaving the birders wanting more. Here is a tour designed for birders where you see all the mammals but also stop to look at the birds.

We start off the tour with Samburu the lesser known park by the Ewaso Nyiro River known for its special 5, Long-necked Gerenuk, Gravy's zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx and Masai Ostrich

Next stop Lake Bogoria in the Rift Valley which hosts one of the world's largest populations of Lesser Flamingo providing spectacular vistas, apart from other birds and mammals like the rare Greater Kudu, Warthogs, Zebras, Baboons, and many more small mammals! Not just wildlife but also spectacular scenery with hot springs and geysers.

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful large freshwater lake surrounded by Acacia woodlands and fringed by Papyrus. Home to large numbers of Hippopotamus, the lake supports abundant bird life including the striking African Fish-Eagle and specialty birds also home to the Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys and Giraffes.

The Maasai Mara is world famous for big game, the Big 5; Lion, Leopard, African elephant, African buffalo and Black Rhinoceros. We are in time to see the famous annual migration of the Wildebeest and try and photograph them as they do the river crossing. Following this heard of prey and predators would be a big trail of scavengers. But the Mara is not just about just these there are a host of other species that are on show here.
