{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} The fish are starting to bite

Thursday 20 April:  Hit a pond down at NAS Patuxent River after a meeting.  On the bank about 1630-1815 and caught a bunch of bluegill and one crappie.  Also caught a few small bass and this larger one (see pic).  Unfortunately lost my last remaining small bass popper in a tree down there, so had to call it a day.

Friday I hit Orvis and stocked up on poppers and of course a few other items I have real no reason to buy...but bought them anyway.

Hit the Potomac yesterday in Hains Point under the 14th St Bridge.  Decided to try a "dropper" (if that is what it's called).  Tied off a yellow popper and then from that ran ~3-4 ft of 3x and tied off a little green nymph (recommended by the helpful guy at Orvis).  Well it worked.  No lunkers but did manage to catch a bluegill and about three 5-6 inch shad on the dropper.  Throwing that rig takes some practice so they don't get tangled.  I think I will fish a dropper from here on out based on this success (I was completely skunked there last week).

Cheers
Collin
