One of these days I will get further out and explore the water, but for now I agree Holmes and Accotink can be fun. And it is good for casting practice. All of the fish I have brought to net have had healthy fins, so thats a good sign.
Also the more of us that are there, the harder it is for people to poach as much.

I haven't been this year, but last year, they stocked Holmes all winter. The downside is most of the fish seem to be missing their fins which is both a sad reminder of their lives as stockers, but also a limit to their ability to put up a fight. It IS however a great place to practice casting as there is a lot of open space, but also some great tighter spaces for precision casting. I'd highly recommend putting and hour to hour and a half in the car and trying some wild or native trout nearby, but in a pinch Holmes and Accotink can be quite fun.--
PS if you happen to be there and see wet tire tracks from the stocking truck, wait a week and come back. The recent stockers will only take a fly if its a food pellet imitation.Gregg

Does anyone have any ideas within an hour or so of DC? I don't think I'll have all day, but I would like to get out for a couple of hours during the warmth of the day on either Saturday or Sunday. Thanks in advance for the help!Josh
