That rumor is true, I looked that fish right in the eye as it threw the hook. I was so stunned by the sight of an American shad in February I forgot how to land a fish. There were a couple other shad hooked yesterday. To my knowledge no one has landed one.
Cold front will shut it down temporarily. The few shad here will stay but be very difficult to catch. The best chance at a February shad may be today.
