2nd to Yambag. In my fairly limited Pawtomic bass fishing, I have found the most effective pattern - woolly bugger, never gets hit on the swing, its almost always on the retrieve. it seems the smallies want to chase the bait rather than have it come to them like trout. just my $.02.
going camping in 2 weeks with a buddy and our sons will validate my theory and report back if helpful.

I rarely swing flies for bass, mainly because I don't think it is the most effective approach. Assuming you are using streamers, adding some action always seems to be more effective. I have never really fished for bass early in the year, but I wonder if just a swing would work better then.I am assuming that when you say swing you are talking about fishing the typical down and across like you would for steelhead.
