Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} 1000 Islands?

I've been up in Kingston for the past two weeks fishing the lake where the family cottage sits.  Weather has been cold with rain and wind most of the time. Next week should be sunny and warmer.

I've been spin casting with a Ned rig and yellow shallow crank bait with good luck in 4-8' of cool water.

I haven't fished the St. Lawrence but see boats in the coves.

There are some nice lakes that dont get much weekday pressure all around. The South Frontenac Rental Center south of Verona on Hwy 38 has a bunch of non-fly fishing gear as does Canadian Tire in Kingston on Gardiners Road. They should be able to give you some good gouge.

Scott

PS. The Pulaski River is 90 minutes away on 81. That is the place to fly fish for trout and salmon.

I'll be near Lansdowne on the Canadian side, in case that matters much.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: When is the next Beer Tie?

Owen,
For me it may be a google permissions issue. All my google stuff is associated with my school email, which is not the email I use for TPFR. I tried to create a second account with that email but could not find a place to do that. I don't want the school address to be my main account as I'm not able to see school emails on all my devices.

{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Cast & Blast-Smallmouth Bass & Goose Trip Anyone ?

Hey All,
Would anybody like to join me for Smallmouth Bass fishing and Goose hunting combo trip on the Potomac River locally in Montgomery and/or Frederick County ?

I have a camo painted canoe,
small pop-up blind, goose decoys, goose calls basically all gear one needs for a local goose hunt. You would need your own gun, ammo and Maryland state hunting license plus federal & state duck stamps
And your own fishing gear.

Maryland Goose Season in the western zone 1st split runs from Labor Day September 2nd through September 25th.

If interested please email me directly.

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Pink-tint polarized lenses

Here is the catalog from 1999. I'm still all about amber lenses for all conditions except low light. I wear Costa sunrise yellow lenses. Only glass for me.

That's a very cool business I had never heard of -- thanks. I will definitely use them to replace some scratched lenses.

But as far as I can tell they don't have any low-light pink-tinted sunglasses. They have a 'rose-gold' that's only 13% VLT, and they have a violet tint that's 26% VLT but is not polarized, and then they have the obligatory red-mirror-amber-tint.

I've been trying for a few years, but I can't find anything to replace that pair. I have a couple of pairs of pink-tinted non-polarized sunglasses designed for cycling (they're okay, not great for fishing), and I bought a couple of pairs of sunglasses that have "red mirror" lenses but turned out to be amber tinted (they're great for when I want to look like a d-bag in any light condition). I've scoured REI, Dick's, Bass Pro, and other shops looking for pink polarized sunglasses. So far I think the closest I found was a $250 pair of Smiths or something like that, but I'm looking for something in the $50-100 range.

I've run out of leads here, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? Does anyone still make such a lens?

thanks,
Miles

So for winter conditions maybe think ski goggles and sunglasses made by ski goggle companies. Oakley comes to mind. I used to wear their yellow lenses for cycling.  I think it's the combo of pink/yellow for low light and polarized that makes this search a tough one.

I went through a similar search earlier this year and want able to find anything that was both low light (yellow or pink) and polarized other than the Smith chromapops.  I asked Brian Trow at Mossy about it and he said amber is going to be your best bet.  I'm still looking …. Smith often has an old frame styles on sale. You maybe able to get a high quality lens at an admittedly small discount.

Please report back if you find anything.  We might be able to place a bulk order.

This is a long shot, but Orvis used to make affordable pink-tinted sunglasses for low-light fishing conditions. They were great glasses for that, but they were also great for general winter use and driving on snowy days. Orvis stopped making them a while back, and mine eventually got too scratched to wear.

Does anyone still make such a lens?

thanks,
Miles

Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Pink-tint polarized lenses

If trying the shooting glasses direction, try Wiley X and Hunters HD gold
