Re: {Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Shad Status on the Potomac

With the flows as low as they are, it wasn't a hard paddle (in a kayak) up to chain bridge last Friday.

Thanks guys. Don't have a motor, so will be tough to make it too far upstream from fletchers--but sounds like it could be worth trying out.

Shore fishing picking up. Sill no white perch. Saw one today. Saw one snakehead. Herring schools are getting thicker. Water is slow and smooth on top. Hickories were all on the seam today. 9/10 fish on the damsel. I'm just now sending notices to out of town friends to come in for the weekend.

From my perspective we are just a bit past Alladin on the Disney shad run bell curve.

I was there last Wednesday and caught more than 20 in 2 hours right in front of Fletchers.

Gotcha--thank you all for the valuable advice. Will probably hold off for a couple weeks.

Tight lines!

I'm at fletchers at least 3 days a week and honestly, the season started fairly well but it has been pretty bad the last ten days or so.  Saturday morning I caught only a handful of fish and talked to several folks who got skunked.  This was at fletchers and down below walkers on a good tide at first light.  For that to happen in mid april is pretty unheard of barring blown out conditions.

The word does seem to be that the fishing is better upstream of fletchers as Robert S. said. I haven't been up that way though.

We should be entering peak time but if we don't get significant rain who knows what will happen.  The river is super low.

Best fishing this past Sunday was upstream of fletchers, down from the bridge. Expect heavy boat traffic and shore fisherman. Decent numbers not earth shattering.

Hey all, any word on the status of the Shad run on the Potomac? Was thinking about renting a rowboat out of Fletchers this weekend, but didn't want to jump the gun if the fish aren't there yet and we're a few weeks off peak. Anyone been out lately and have an update?
