{Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders} Re: Telescoping fly rod?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by travel rod, but any ~9ft 4 piece rod (kinda the industry standard these days) will do fine in the overhead of a plane, as a commuter rod to keep in a backpack you may want a lighter 6 piece, or a sub 8ft 4 piece rod, or even look into a tenkara or keiryu rod. 

I will say this, I had a 6 piece travel 8 weight for a long time from a reputable builder, I bought spare tip section like they were going out of style and I broke that rod so often I eventually threw it in the trash. I don't think most 6 piece + rods are all that durable, and they are a pain to setup and keep the line guides aligned.
