Will,
-- In my 50s now, I haven't seen a telescopic fly rod in well over 30 years. They were awful. My first fly rod was a telescopic fly rod I found in my grandfather's garage. It was terrible. Wish I still had it mind you, as a curiosity, but it's long gone.
I have three 5-piece rods that easily fit inside a backpack. Though as stated above, I also use the water bottle holder and strap on a backpack for my 4-piece rods.

Hey all,I'm curious if you've found a good telescoping fly rod or if there's a blank (i.e., Tenkara) you would recommend to convert into a fly rod? One of the reasons I don't fish more often is that I don't have a car and it's a pain in the butt to carry a rod tube everywhere. Interested in something more commuter backpack friendly but would also allow me to practice my casts. If there's not a good option, I'd like to take a crack at making one out of something else.-Will
