Hey -- I'm fixing the usual pinholes in my goretex simms waders using the spray, alcohol method. I get a lot of pinholes from doing a lot of fishing and just generally beating the tar out of my gear.
-- Question -- on the "triple stiched", thicker part of these suckers (the front of the legs...in the knee area if that makes sense) I can reveal lots of what appear to be dark-colored scrapes and scratches versus the usual pinholes on the single-stitched portions (where all the pinholes usually are).
Do you guys try to smear a thin layer of aquaseal on the triple-stitched, scratched up part? I don't notice any apparent leaks in that area, but the amount of scrapes, etc. I can see with the alcohol is pretty intense.
I'm getting about a season out of waders without doing some kind of repair, and I wet wade much of the season. For boots, I get about 5 months before they're basically destroyed where the uppers meet the soles. I still like 'em though - they're comfortable and anything that would last longer wouldn't be comfortable to wear, so I just replace a lot. I figure you can't expect hiking, being put up wet, and torquing around on rocks to be a "long lasting" situation for footwear.
Man, my older pair of waders has almost as much aquaseal as wader material.
