I would try to choose something closer to Roanoke. I don't have any specific recommendations, but can give you a general overview. The trout streams within 3 hours of DC (from driveway to stream) get fished pretty hard. The better big fish streams are tailwater or spring creeks and fish like tailwater or spring creek fisheries The smaller streams are usually high gradient brookie streams where a shorter rod and some hiking is required.
