Are you able to float with a canoe? That how I would attack the S.F. Shenandoah anyway. With kids and a desire to catch fish over everything else, I would probably put in at Karo Landing and paddle up about 1/4 mile (it's virtually stillwater there) to the first set of massive riffles which you'd have to portage over. On the left facing upstream right there is one of the numerous back eddies that is full of redbreast sunfish and a few smallmouth (and carp). You could anchor there and catch fish quite easily, and also all along the left bank as you float (very, very slowly) back down to Karo.

Of course, the big smallmouth I've tended to locate in the faster portions of floats....but you said "ease" ;).
I see people wading there at those 2 spots all the time (and catching crayfish right at the put in at Karo) , but you can't really reach much water due to depth, and my preference would certainly be for a canoe.
If you make it out let us know how you do!
I think Beth and I are taking some kids fishing on the Cache La Poudre later today ;).

I took my lil brother down to the confluence of the Rappahannock and Rapidan when he was 10. The wading and hike in were easy for him, I just carried all the gear and water and snacks. He was already hooked on the sport tho, so that might be a key factor I take for granted. Thanks,On Sun, Aug 2, 2015 at 7:45 PM, Alek <alekc...@gmail.com> wrote:I've never been, but would like to try some smallmouth fishing with an 8 and 11 year old. Are there any spots where this is feasible? Obviously I am willing to trade quality of fish for ease of access.--
